Speech Team
St. Peter Central Catholic has a speech team for middle-school students. In January, students in Grades 6-8 are invited to try out for the speech team. The speech team consists of two sixth graders, eight seventh graders, and eight eighth graders. Speech team members are assigned pieces in the following categories: prose, poetry, children’s literature, duo interpretation, play reading, and original oratory. Practices are held during recess and after school. The Diocesan Declamation Festival is held at a local Catholic high school in March. Speech team members compete in their grade-level categories.
Chorus
The SPCC chorus program is open to students in grade 2-6. The chorus meets once a week for to practice songs which will be sung at Masses throughout the school year. The Chorus also performs a Christmas concert for the school and guests consisting of traditional and spiritual Christmas songs as well as singing for the Christmas Pageant. We sang at the Railers’ game and for the Retired Priests’ Luncheon at Christmas time. Chorus affords the children the opportunity to expand their enjoyment of music and learn about music symbols, styles, tempos, and dynamics while making friends across grade levels.
Math Club
Math Club is offered to grades 3-8 beginning in the winter. Students work on grade level skills as well as challenging word problems. Math Club collaborates together in an encouraging environment to hone and advance their math knowledge! Students participate in an online math competition in the Spring and are awarded medals and certificates based on their results!
Climate Club
The Climate Club, grades 3-8, meets weekly to discuss our world and what everyone can do to make it a better place now and in the future.
