The overall purpose of our math program is to help students develop their abilities to reason and communicate mathematically. Program planning includes recognition of each student’s background experiences, environment and aptitude. By developing mathematical skills for application and number sense in problem solving, students will be confident in their ability to use these skills in everyday life.
Grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade utilizes the Houghton Mifflin Math Series. The program covers place value, addition, subtraction, money, number sense, geometry, measurement, time and data collection from Kindergarten to Grade 2. Grade 3 to Grade 5 build upon these skills while also covering multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, coordinate graphing, and algebra concepts. Students in Grades 6-8 utilize the Prentice Hall Common Core math series copyright covering multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, ratios, functions, linear equations and inequalities. The math program also includes Pearson Algebra 1 in Grade 8 for students as well. Algebra 1 covers linear equations, coordinate graphing, functions, linear and non-linear equations and quadratic equations.
