The overall purpose of our math program is to help students develop their abilities to reason and communicate mathematically. Program planning includes recognition of each student’s background experiences, environment and aptitude. By developing mathematical skills for application and number sense in problem solving, students will be confident in their ability to use these skills in everyday life.
Grades Kindergarten through Eighth Grade utilizes the Eureka Math Series, by Great Minds. Eureka Math sequences the mathematical progressions into well formulated modules. It provides a comprehensive curriculum. It is a spiraling program that helps the students move easily into the next grade and beyond. The program covers place value, addition, subtraction, money, number sense, geometry, measurement, time and data collection from Kindergarten to Grade 2. Grade 3 to Grade 5 build upon these skills while also covering multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, coordinate graphing, and algebra concepts. Students in Grades 6-8 continues to build on past skills covering multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, ratios, functions, linear equations and inequalities. The math program also covers linear equations, coordinate graphing, functions, linear and non-linear equations and quadratic equations.
